10.24.02 || well, it's been a while since our
last update (computer woes and personal
business being the reasons!), so here's
what's been going on:  we have finished
tracking four new songs for our new album,
and are hard at work on the others.  a cd
containing these first four tracks will be
available for FREE to attendees of our
upcoming shows.  we hope that this little
'sampler' cd will get all you kids excited
about our new material, and give you a
taste of what our new LP will be like.  also,
we are preparing our new live show to
debut on Nov. 16; don't worry, we aren't
doing choreographed dance moves or
anything.  btw, we got another review for
our last ep 'no means yes' at www.
evilsponge.org
.  check it out!  speaking of
'no means yes,' if you don't have it or our
other cds, go get 'em!

09.17.02 || not much new this week; our pre-production process is done and tracking has begun for our new record, and we're organizing our new live show to debut on nov. 16 at the earl.  we have received much interest in our proposed local scene changes.  many other issues that people feel strongly about have been brought to our attention, and my (cj) "four ways to save atlanta's music community from self-destruction" essay will hopefully be published/distributed soon.  as always, if there is something regarding our scene in atlanta that is troubling you, please let us know!!  thank you, more soon...

09.01.02 || notice anything different?  yes, we have a brand spanking new website for your (and our) pleasure.  well, we've been busy critters lately recording our new full-length record.  this crybaby record will be different than anything we've put out so far; we're the same band, but we have been working very hard to orchestrate our new material into one cohesive recording that as of right now will clock in at around 75 minutes.  let's see another local band do that!!  we just have so much material that we want people to hear, and we just want to get it all out there at once with no bullshit.  we won't be doing any shows until at least mid-november...
ok, here's the deal.  our growing irritation with certain butt-kissers in atlanta's music community is no secret at this point.  we (along with many other bands who are much better than us) have been getting the shit end of the stick for too long, and we want to change that.  how, you ask?  who the hell knows?  but here's how we plan to start:  we think that $7 or $8 is way too high of a cover charge to see a few local bands like us.  hell, we think $5 is too much.  aren't you tired of seeing the same people at all the shows you go to/play?  whenever we go see a local band here in town, the room is always crawling with other local musicians, local bar patrons, local bar employees, and the same local press people who are at every show.  there are not many new faces coming out to these shows, but we think we could change that if cover charges were less.  this is where we come in.  you see, crybaby doesn't care about getting paid to play an in-town show and there are lots of other local bands that feel the same way.  if the club guy hands us some money at the end of the night, it's just a nice surprise that we weren't even thinking about!  we would rather not make a penny and there be 300 people there who paid $3 or $4 each to get in, rather than make a few bucks off 75 people who were charged $7.  everyone who came would have more money to spend at the bar, the bands would get to show their music to more people, everyone wins!!  in short, we think we could convince a lot more people to come to our shows if the clubs charged less to get in.  so, we plan to do everything in our power to encourage clubs and other bands to lower their cover charges.  if you pay more than $5 to see us play in atlanta, rest assured we are not happy about it and have done all we can do to get it lowered!  we're trying to start doing $2, $3 shows with other like-minded groups starting in the late fall so keep your toes open!  if you are in a band and agree with this plan, let us know!
also, if you would like to read a very good analysis of the atlanta 'indie' scene, check out jeff clark's scathing editorial in this month's stomp and stammer.  our usual opinion that jeff clark is just a witty jackass with a disproportionately large vocabulary has been put on hold, for the fella actually speaks a good bit of wisdom these days.....

07.24.02 || due to a series of nervous breakdowns within the band, we will be pulling a real 180 here soon.  we are completely done with 'indie' rock.  we have not been as original and artistic as we could have been, and we aim to change that.  we have found ourselves exactly where we did not want to end up: as an 'indie' rock band.  when we started this group almost 2 years ago, we aimed to be different from every other band we come in contact with.  well, we fell into the predictable-songwriting trap that plagues so many more-talented musicians, and have suddenly found ourselves very dissatisfied with what we've become.  things will be different soon.  our show on aug 2nd at the nono gallery (for the IG fest) will be our last show for months.  at that show, attendees will be treated to a preview of our new direction.  when we come back in a few months, we will be doing something that is more true and pure to what we love.
on a personal note, i (cj) have become so disenchanted with the local music community that i can no longer stomach it.  in case you weren't aware, the structure of the local 'indie' scene is built upon a series of blowjobs.  'you kiss my ass, and i'll kiss yours' seems to be the order of the day for atlanta's 'indie' elite.  there are many genuinely nice, cool people here, but there are also many many mooching, bandwagon-jumping scenesters who are only diluting what little artistic integrity we have left in atlanta.  you know who you are and you should be ashamed.
also, if i see one more dipshit in a crisp new, straight-out-of-the-gwinnett-mall strokes t-shirt, i might freak out.  look, i think they're a good band and all, but they aren't the second coming of the beatles!
that's all, and we'll either see you on the 2nd or we'll see you in november!

06.22.02 || thanks to all that attended our show at the EARL last week; we had a great time!  well, we have officially begun the pre-production process for our debut full-length.  no release date is set, but we're thinking maybe this winter....  we've got a ton of material to record, and we're looking to put out a pretty long album.  more soon!

06.02.02 || performer magazine has our ugly mugs on the front cover of it's june issue!!  check it out!  well, we are back in our rehearsal studio (finally) and are hard at work on new material.  we plan to pull out at least one new track at our show this week at the EARL in atlanta.  recording will finally begin soon on our debut full-length LP; more on that as it comes!

05.21.02 || as many of you know, we are currently taking some time to restructure a bit.  due to personal issues within the band, we were forced to cancel our east coast tour, much to our dismay.  we are playing a few intown shows here at home in atlanta over the next few months, but our tour plans are spotty at best for the near future.  the good news is that we are soon going to begin recording our first LP!  we had originally planned to start back in february, but our studio building caught on fire....  check out our new show dates!!

04.16.02 || our florida mini-tour had its ups and downs....  more on that later.  we've got some new shows, so check 'em out!

03.26.02 || first off, thank you very much to all of you who made it out to the echolounge in atlanta for our cd release show!  we had a blast, and the other bands were fabulous just as we knew they would be.  news:  we are still without a permanent rehearsal studio, so our recording process continues to be on hold.  damn.  hopefully we'll have that little problem squared away this week.  we're still lining up shows for our east-coast mini-tour in may; we'll keep you posted.  also, crybaby will be the lucky subject of a feature article and cover story in the june issue of performer magazine!  right on!  more soon...

02.19.02 || even though our new ep doesn't hit stores until february 26, you can buy advance copies of it now directly from our record label, two sheds music!

01.24.02 || long time no update!  lots of news, so listen up!  we have finished our new ep "no means yes," and it is being pressed as we speak (read).  you wouldn't know it by listening, but this ep was recorded, mixed, and mastered for free.  we were able to record these 5 tracks at two of the finest studios in the country, tree sound studios, and sonica recording studios, for nary a cent.  all of this would not have been possible were it not for the extraordinary generosity of engineer mark rains, assistant john balak, and sonica owner john briglevich; these are three of the nicest guys in the whole world.  and where would we be without john graham?  john is the president of our new record label two sheds music.  his faith in us and never-ending support has been a breath of fresh air in an otherwise dirty, dirty industry.  it's very refreshing to meet and work with someone who believes that artistic integrity should always come before a big profit.
ok, enough thanking for now...  so, we are also currently beginning work on our first ever full length album.  it should be ready to go by fall, and we're not sure yet who's going to be putting it out.  also, we are hitting the road a good bit in the next few months, starting with a trip into the carolinas in late february.  we will then return home for our cd release shows in mid march, and then play one or two intown shows before hitting the road again for a few weeks in april/may.  this time, we will start in florida, go all the way to ny, and then back down to atlanta.  whew!!  you can keep up with all of these dates on our tour page!

12.20.01 || we'd like to thank everyone for coming out to see us last night at the star bar; and thanks especially to goodnight insomniacs and american dream for playing as well!  american dream even whipped out a great drunken cover of 'cry baby cry' just for us!!  hey, we got a great write-up in creative loafing this week, as well as a very flattering cd review in the big takeover magazine.  check them both out here.  more soon!

12.03.01 || well, we just returned from our 3-city mini tour, and would like to thank all the fine people who turned out for our shows!  we met some great other bands, and had a great time!  if you're ever in tampa, you MUST go see a band called We Have Agents!!  they are one of the coolest bands we've ever played with, and we definitely plan to play with them again in the future!  the current plan is for us to spend most of january and february recording our full-length record (should come out in the spring), and then tour extensively after the release of our new EP on two sheds music at the end of february.  we'll let you know...

11.23.01 || thanks to all who attended the WRAS benefit show; we had a great time with the attendees as well as the members of the other performing bands!  all for a good cause.  well, it's official:  crybaby will be releasing our next ep (as yet untitled) on two sheds music in early 2002.  they've got a great growing roster of bands including our buddies ashen and sharks and minnows.  we are also still planning to release our full-length record in the spring of 2002.  well, we're heading to florida next weekend, so if you've got any buddies in tampa, orlando, or jacksonville, tell them about us!

11.02.01 || it's been quite a while since we updated, and a lot has happened!  we've got a million new show dates lined up for the rest of 2001, and more on the way.  thanks to those of you who have been heading out to our shows; we know who you are, and we really appreciate it!    so, here's what we've been up to:  we performed live on WRAS atlanta a couple of weeks ago; we played the red light cafe, the earl, and a few other odds and ends; i (cj) dropped off some brand new recordings and did a little on-air chatter at WRAS this past weekend.....   whew!  once again, we have re-evaluated our recording/release options, and have decided to release a 5 track ep (from our tree studios sessions) at the end of this year, IN ADDITION TO our planned full-length record coming out in early 2002.  we just have too much material we want to get out there.....  well, i think that's about it for now, but be sure to come out to our shows!  we are doing shows in and around atlanta with some awesome bands (dropsonic, american dream, ashen, the yum yum tree, 3d5spd, sharks and minnows, just to name a few!), so come out!!  later kids.....

08.28.01 || well, there's been a small change of plans regarding our recording schedule.  we recently recorded 5 new tracks at the wonderful tree sound studios, and we are heading back to cut another 5 or so later this fall.  in the meantime, we are working on an ep of some of our favorite cover songs that will be released sometime in november.

08.21.01 || new site design (sort of)!!  not much exciting news, but we are hard at work writing and rehearsing our new material.  we are hitting the studio in october to record 12-15 new tracks, to be released as a full-length lp.  also, check out a great new cd review here!  it's from performer magazine.

07.22.01 || please join us in welcoming bassist daniel winn to crybaby!  daniel has been our buddy for years, and was gracious enough to bail us out of a tight spot when our former bassist skipped out on us.  daniel has proven himself to be quite compatible with our style over the past month or so, and thus was asked to stay on full-time.  we are truly thankful to have him aboard!

06.30.01 || hey!  we've got a new live cd available called 'live at the star bar!'  this cd is only available through this site and at our shows, and will be in limited number.  also, our earl show with 3d5spd and kate simpkins was a blast; both of the other bands were fantastic, and are also the nicest bunch of people in the world!!  go see them, you'll thank us!

06.25.01 || ok, so the redlight cafe show was cancelled due to the benefit organizers overbooking the venue.  hopefully we can avoid this sort of nonsense in the future...  thanks to all that attended the star bar show last wednesday; the show was recorded and will be released as a live cd in the next month.  be sure to pick one up!  also, you can now purchase crybaby's self-titled debut ep from this site, as well as criminal records, wax n' facts, the book nook, eat more records, hmv records (lenox square), and wuxtry.

06.07.01 || crybaby's bassist has unexpectedly left the band, and a replacement is needed!  if you know someone who would be interested, click here!!  due to this, there were a few show cancellations, but also some new dates to replace them...  we would like to thank daniel winn for filling in as bassist for upcoming shows!  also, check out the first review in for the new ep here!

05.15.01 || new shows!  also, our last show (at the contemporary) got a great review at evilsponge.org.  you can read the entire review on their site, or some excerpts here.  we also have a new guestbook, so sign it!!

04.26.01 || news news news!  first off, the debut self-titled ep is finished, and can be purchased here.  also, we'll be offering our second ep, 'insignificant insight', exclusively through this site and our mp3.com page here.  this ep contains one new track, one live track, one acoustic track, and two remixes.  buy them!!  come to our shows!!

03.23.01 || the first ep is done!  they are currently being replicated and prepared for sale.  until then, you can get them here.  also, new shows!

03.03.01 || regardless of the inevitable technical difficulties, the march 1st show went very well.  there should be some new pics here soon....  and no, floraline cannot steal kelly away; sorry guys.  the recording process for the upcoming eps is going much quicker than originally anticipated; look for a cd release for both discs at the end of april.

02.22.01 || be sure to check out crybaby's show with fancy and centipede on march 1st at the echolounge.

02.12.01 || well, the jeremy wilkins benefit show was a huge success!  thanks to all who attended, as well as to all the other bands who participated.  check out some pics here.  our cd release schedule has been updated, and there are now bumper stickers available!  the stickers have the crybaby logo (above) and are about that size.  they come in red/black and white/black, and are available for free at upcoming shows!

02.02.01 || ok, wras 88.5 has some crybaby material now, so there is no good reason why you shouldn't call and request it be played (404-651-4488)!!  also, we will be heading to the studio february 27th to work on the upcoming 'crybaby' ep.  while this ep will contain louder, harder material, the upcoming insignificant insight ep will represent the quieter side of crybaby.

01.15.01 || we have solidified our lineup!  the band now consists of kelly sirmans on vocals & winds, cj bargamian on guitar & xylophone, mark carbone on drums, and todd oakley on bass.  expect a handful of show dates soon, beginning with the jeremy wilkins benefit show at the echolounge on feb 8th.
