Here is my musical history, complete with obligatory audio samples. Enjoy at your own peril - some of this stuff is pretty terrible.
A Fight to the Death
2007-present www.afighttothedeath.com This is my current band, and I love it. Best described as Avant-Western-Americana-Gypsy music built with Latin and Mediterranean rhythms, surf twang, and melodies fit for lonely midnight drives through the desert.
Members: CJ Bargamian, Mark Carbone, Nathan Green, George Wallace, Daniel Winn, Colin Jaccino (past).
A Song Each Day (ongoing) www.asongeachday.com This is my brainchild - a songwriter writes and records a new song each day for a predetermined period of time, and posts it online for free. I did 30 days of this last year, and other songwriters have done it since then.
A Fight to the Death (version 1)
2006-2007
When AFTTD began, I was living in San Francisco and recording songs in my tiny apartment. I assembled an EP, and these songs became the foundation for the full band when I moved back to Atlanta in '07.
American Literature 2004-2006
Somewhat a precursor to A Fight to the Death, this was basically me (and occasionally some friends) recording songs as I tried to take my writing in a new direction. I never did a show with these tunes, though parts of some of them found their way into AFTTD songs. These songs are a lot more Americana-ish.
Goodnight Insomniacs 2004-2006, off-and-on www.myspace.com/goodnightinsomniacs
I played off-and-on with Mark Tillman's loosely-knit band; I played some guitar, some omnichord, and some xylophone. Mark now lives in Los Angeles, so this band isn't really going anymore. I'd call Mark's stuff Wilco-esque, but there are certainly elements of art-rock in there too.
Members: Mark Tillman, Mark Carbone, Daniel Winn, Jamie Shepard, CJ Bargamian, Brian Parks, others.
CJ & Eric (untitled project)
2003-2004 This was a project that I worked on with my old friend Chris Wilkinson at first, but then ultimately became just me and Eric Balint...who I met through a classified ad. We did some cool stuff, but it just never went anywhere. I really have no idea how to classify this stuff in terms of genre...
Members: CJ Bargamian, Eric Balint, Peter Decker (short term), Chris Wilkinson (short term)
Crybaby 2001-2003
www.mediahostage.com/crybaby
This band was comprised of myself and three high-school friends that I'd played with for years. We sounded kinda like Lush, PJ Harvey, etc - local music snob Jeff Clark lovingly referred to us as "histrionic."
Members: Kelly Sirmans, Daniel Winn, CJ Bargamian, Mark Carbone, Todd Oakley
Myssouri 2000
www.myssouri.net
I joined up with this local dark western band and only remained with them for about 6 months. I ended up quitting for two main reasons: 1. personality and musical conflicts with other band member, and 2. I was 23 years old and musically immature.
Members (during my time): Michael Bradley, Hampton Ryan, Chris Jansen, Andy Hodgeson, CJ Bargamian
Lithonia Power Train 1999-2000
www.mediahostage.com/lpt
LPT was a joke-metal band, and we played really obnoxious sludge-metal and thrashy stuff. We ended up trashing venues and getting thrown out of our own shows...
Members: Brian Tribble, Daniel Winn, Mark Carbone, TJ Champitto, CJ Bargamian, Jay Murphy
Fifty-Year Storm
1999 Short-lived band that ultimately morphed into Goodnight Insomniacs many years later.
Members: Mark Tillman, Daniel Winn, Mark Carbone, CJ Bargamian
Positrons 1997-1999
This was my foray into crappy industrial electronic stuff.
Purplexia 1996-1997
My first foray into synthpop electro stuff - kinda fun, pretty cheezy.
Members: CJ Bargamian, Skot Waldron
Special Agent Dale Cooper 1994-1996
Noisy indie rock three-piece.
Members: CJ Bargamian, Ty Duncan, Jared Suess, Chase Duncan
Circus Doll 1994 A rather boring and normal mid-90s rock band - no recordings wereever made, and we only played a couple of shows.
Members: Joe Nichols, Steve Aronson, CJ Bargamian, Ty Duncan, Jared Suess
Local Color Movement 1994 www.myspace.com/localcolormovement Some old friends started a funky rock-rap thing that I joined for a very brief period. They went on to achieve a decent amount of local and regional success before breaking up in the late 90s.
Members: Mark Tillman, Mark Carbone, Brian Tribble, John Balak, Daniel Winn
Thread 1991-1994
My first proper high-school rock band - we went through a handful of names, styles, and singers before settling on Thread. We put out a couple of demo tapes that we recorded ourselves on a crappy 4 track recorder and then dubbed ourselves.
Members: CJ Bargamian, Jared Suess, Mark Carbone, Andy Turner, TJ Champitto
